War

A syllable with so much weight. It carries on its shoulders so many sensations: the staccato retort of gunfire, the screams of bomb shells, the cries of wounded soldiers; images of severed limbs and settling dust, of mushroom clouds and waves of nuclear destruction.

War is the cultural equivalent of suicide or self-mutilation, an art carefully honed and perfected. There are as many kinds of wars as there are people: wars between nations, between individuals, between faiths and their followers. There are wars of the body and wars of the mind, wars against sickness and wars against life.

There is a war inside every one of us, waiting to be unleashed. A subtle web of chains binds it, biting into the flesh, and with time these chains only grow tighter. They draw blood and slowly wars dry out, dying a slow miserable death in the recesses of our mind where we can quietly ignore its pleas for release. But on this knot of chains there is a padlock.

You are about to meet a merchant who deals in skeleton keys.

But that's not all. This is a duet, after all.

There are certain cases - certain exceptions - that deserve acknowledgement. Sometimes there is a truly explosive war inside someone, and sometimes the roar of adrenaline flowing out of butchered arteries and severed veins is enough to give them just that last bit of strength, enough to make their struggle something besides futile, enough to loosen those chains. Then it's simply a matter of letting your war spread its wings and tearing free from its prison of hollow concepts and social conditioning. Then it's a black cloud, free to expand and engulf everything, free to slake its terrible hunger until every inch of a man is a weapon to sink itself into something.

You are about to meet a man whose dreams have teeth.

Let's see how many he needs to have pulled.

Songs of Distant Earth

Every world has its tyrants, its heroes, its poets, its thinkers, its dreamers. Every world has its doctors and firemen and writers and blessed lunatics, albeit they don't always go by the same name. Thalassa is a world with history, and so it knows these things itself. But what it doesn't know yet is that it's come to a shatterpoint. A shatterpoint can be anything, from a slight change in the temperament of a madman to the dispassionate destruction that nature offers. It is a point in time where just a slight pressure can unravel everything.

This shatterpoint is war. Two of them. One that has not yet been fought, and one that shall be fought today. One will be fought by nations, the other by a pair of monsters.

One was drawn to Thalassa by the allure of a shatterpoint; they attract him like moths to a flame. The other comes out of instinct to kill the other. Whether this will be one battle of many or a duel to the death at first sight cannot yet be known. Regardless, Thalassa's fate is sealed. It will be torn apart by the events one monster has already set into motion; he does this through his many shapes, each one a corrupting influence on those around it. He has played the part of the beautiful seductress and the hardened politician, the scheming vizier and the prophesying pariah.

He has doomed Thalassa with his presence. He came and he planted a seed into the mind of a scientist; a seed full of nuclear potential, just as he did on Earth in another skin. Indeed, Thalassa's fate will echo that of Earth; ironically, its first colonies came from the seed ships that fled Earth's destruction, and by their trail across the stars the monster hunted them.

Now he stands in a hollowed out basin that serves as a nuclear test facility for a Thalassian kingdom. He wears a different shroud, but when he arrives, the other monster will recognize Narcissus' scent. It hangs about him like a stale perfume, the Val'garan musk. He still hears Idea's whispers, but now he is only loosely a part of the collective. The religious zealot in him died, leaving behind an agent of chaos with much work ahead of him.

Yes... perhaps the other monster will know who he is instinctively, even though they have never seen each other before. Never seen each other in the flesh. They have played a dangerous game of cat and mouse in their dreams, and finally those fleeting confrontations have come to a head. The disguise doesn't matter, though it is a disguise he labored on with love.

He is a hag now, a stone-skinned woman, a sister from the gray wastes of Dis. Hair like straw covers his shoulders and falls down to his waist like a matted black mane, hiding the four mounds of flesh that a thousand nightmares have suckled from. Eyes like obsidian peer out from a face withered by time. A lone arm extends from his otherwise motionless figure, the other hanging limp at his side: in its hand lie a few tiny black seeds, covered in sharp thorns.

In less than a year Thalassa will be a wasteland of irradiated soil. Its only landmarks will be the ruins of cities, protruding from the earth like fingers of a struggling colossus buried beneath the regolith. Narcissus will plant those black seeds and slowly, sinisterly, they will take root. They will spread across the planet and emerge, and the aeons will see them cover the world's surface in forests of thorns, until finally the core itself will sit in their cradle. Then that last flickering candle of warmth will be absorbed, and Thalassa will die its final death.

He knows this and so, despite the statuesque stoicism he tries to project, he smiles. He smiles because, no matter who wins the coming battles, he will win the war.

I`m looking for a T1 spar (obviously, T1) consisiting of a entrance/starter of at least eight para`s, and try to keep around at least five every other post. Sometimes it can be hard, depending on the situation, that`s understandable.

Either mild-powers.

Mild powers consisting of simple elemental use, energy use, nothing too-out there, like explosions, or anything.
2-3 power limit, as you shouldn`t need many.

or

Realistic melee, two weapon limit.

7 day posting limit, seeing as if it takes any longer, you clearly have no time for a fight.

The area can be made up of both combatants wishes, or one can make it within their starter. That is all depending on the opponnent. I`m not too picky, as long as it`s not like an area to match their powers fully, and make it only help them, you know?

Hey.

My opponent has PMed me letting me know he cannot post any more. I was the last one to post and it has been 7 days since then (by battle rules, I win by default). However, I would still like the fight to be judged based on points, battle/writing style, and creativity. I would also like the judge to point out any combat flaws that have taken place (I spotted out a few)
The winner will be the player that has the most points.

I already asked another judge, but he seems to have vanished without judging the fight. Thanks in advance.

Comment of the challenger:
Using the liquid-like qualities of Nox's mass, the fight was dominated by quick strikes, sneaky moves and a vicious final strike. Kelvin was only human, the suit provided both a bonus to speed and a healing factor. After taking heavy damage from a sneak-strike, Kelvin's mobility was cut in half from serious leg problems.

From then on out he was a sitting duck. The final strike came from a tri-lash strike that penetrated Kelvin's body, allowing Nox to slide into his open wounds like a poison. Death was painful, but rather fast.

Solrethael was a good opponent, taking damage fairly, and writing a good story. Kelvin was a highly entertaining fighter. I belive if facing an actual human opponent it would have been a closer match.

The added satalite weapon system was judged to be far to over-powered for a melee fight. There was simply no way to counter or defend against it, or even detect it's activation. It would be better used in a Powered fight.

Thank you, sir. I had asked Saladin about it, but I wasn't going to push it much with him until after my closing post goes up. That would have just had an OOC note saying that the fight still needed validation.

We might have a rematch, however. It'll be after the GT is done and after the new HoR goes up.
